Gold plating costs cut for stamping company

Progressive stamping involves feeding a strip of metal through a series of different stations, each of which performs a different operation upon it, for instance, bending or plating, so as to create a finished component.

To do this effectively, the strip has to advance precisely, so that every new process is completely and precisely aligned with those that have gone before.

So, when a specialist company in progressive stamping needed to cut manufacturing costs on two of its product lines, they approached us to help them reduce the amount of gold they used in the process.

Creating innovative electroplating solutions

To do that, we commissioned a special tool that would enable us to spot-plate, so that the gold would be precision-placed onto just four critical points rather than having to be applied in two stripes along the whole length of the roll, as it had been previously.

As a result, we were able to reduce the use of gold by some 25%, leading to significant cost savings, particularly given the often high price of gold.

Coming up with and then applying innovative solutions is just one of the ways in which we help our customers create better products.
